Why brave the long lines when you can whip up your own cup of refreshing milk tea in the familiar comforts of your home? Here’s a quick 5-minute recipe that’ll have your craving for milk tea utterly satisfied. — (TGM)

What You'll Need

  • 300ml of purified water
  • A bucket of ice cubes
  • Two glasses
  • A sachet of Chek Hup Teh Tarik
  • Optional: A bag of tapioca pearls

1. Heat 300ml of purified water. Once small bubbles appear, turn off the heater and pour the hot water into a glass.

2. Tear off a sachet of Chek Hup Teh Tarik and pour the contents into the hot water. Stir vigorously until the mixture is completely absorbed.

3. Pour the hot milk tea into a glass that’s full of ice cubes. Pour the mixture slowly on to the ice cube.

4. Using a spoon, mix well.

5. Enjoy!

Optional: Making the Pearls

  1. On a sauce pan, pour about 4 quarts of water and put on the stove to boil.
  2. Once the water is boiling, add two cups of tapioca pearls.
  3. Cook for 3 minutes on high heat. Keep stirring the pan to prevent the pearls from sticking together.
  4. After about 3 minutes, you’ll notice that the tapioca pearls will float to the top. Once this happens, lower the stove to medium heat. Put the cover on and keep for 15 minutes.
  5. After 15 minutes, turn off the stove and let the tapioca pearls cool for 10 minutes with the cover on.
  6. After 10 minutes, rinse the tapioca with water. Be sure to drain the excess water.
  7. Add the cooked tapioca pearls to the milk tea mixture.
  8. Enjoy!
