Chinese Fried Rice with Bulgur

In many ways, fried rice perfectly describes the harmonious combination of Filipino and Chinese cuisine. Aside from the fact that both cultures recognize rice as an essential staple, this dish presents an opportunity to enliven the taste buds with a variety of meats, vegetables, and sauces. That’s why it is no surprise that reputable restaurants — both local and international — offer their unique take on how fried rice can be.

For this Chinese Fried Rice with Bulgur recipe, we transform this culinary favorite into a healthy and nutritious meal with the help of Duru Bulgur. By substituting white rice with this grain that’s packed with fiber and iron, this dish is perfect for a fun family celebration.

To make this nourishing dish, you need to prepare the following:

  • 4 cups of purified water, boiled
  • 2 cups of coarse Duru bulgur
  • 1/2 cup of small shrimps
  • 1 cup of peas
  • 2 eggs, scrambled
  • 1 cup of broccoli
  • 1 piece of onion, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 1 piece of carrot, chopped
  • 1 cup of cabbage, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons of soy
  • Olive oil

The steps are simple and easy to do:

  1. Pour boiled water and coarse Duru bulgur into a pot. Cover the bowl with a lid and let it stay for ten minutes.
  2. While waiting, heat a frying pan and pour olive oil that’s enough to cover the entire surface of the pan.
  3. Pour the egg mixture into the pan. Once you see that the egg is getting a bit cooked, add the garlic, onion, cabbage, shrimps, broccoli, and peas. Stir for 2 minutes then cover the pan with a lid for about five minutes.
  4. Add the Bulgur to the pan and mix well. Add soy sauce and olive oil to give it a richer flavor. Cook and stir until everything is lightly brown.
  5. Turn off the heat and cover the lid. A delicious and healthy meal is ready to be served — (TGM).
